The Gatekeeper: A Conduit Chronicles Story (The Conduit Chronicles)

About

Greed and envy were the flaws of gods long before they became the downfall of humans.

My name is Susuda. Close friends call me Su. I was abandoned as an infant upon temple steps, but for the grace of the goddess Inanna, was found and adopted by the best mother anyone could ever wish for. She raised me to be a strapping man fit to guard our city of Uruk under the rule of King Gilgamesh, in ancient Sumeria.

But what are we if not mere pawns in the quarrels between gods? The fate that met me feels cruel and unfair, and yet it led me to where I stand today, stained by the blood of those who loved me. For I am The Gatekeeper, and in my hands I hold the fate of the millennia-old war between the conduits. Neither beast nor human, neither gidim nor full conduit, it is only I who can open the gates. Step in and listen to my story…

Interview with the Author

Q: What inspired you to write a spin-off?

A: As I prepared to write Fallen, book three of The Conduit Chronicles, I realized that The Gatekeeper of The Cathedral was going to play a massive role int he story. I wanted to dive into his character and understand how he came to be in the position he was in, guarding a sacred and powerful place. As I started to get to know Susuda, I fell in love with him. The story came naturally and gave a lot of depth to other characters and circumstances.

Q: Can readers expect many more spin-off stories in the future?

A: I intend to publish at least one more spin-off story. I am always open to suggestions, if you have a favorite character, let me know. I feel that spin-off stories give a richness to a series that you can only get from learning more about the characters who inhabit the fantastical world being built.

Q: Can readers enjoy THE GATEKEEPER without having read the first two books?

A: I believe they can. The story stands alone on its own. Of course if the reader wants to know more about the Conduit World, it’s best if they dive into the series. There are a few minor spoilers at the end of the book, a couple things are mentioned that are pertinent and come to light in book two.
